Blood in urine with intestinal blockage

Customer Question

My 5 year old, indoor neutered Tom, became constitpated x 2-3 days. Hairball remedy did not help. On the 3rd day there was blood on the mat outside the litterbox. Frank blood, no odor of feces or urine. Prior to this he had been straining to defecate x 2 days. X-Ray showed rectum distended with air and pressing on his bladder. Descending colon showed blockage with fluffy looking material (I think it is blocked by a sparkle yarn ball he ingested). Vet ignored obstruction and concentrated on treating bladder with steroids and prazosin Q12 your. Today is the 5th day with no bowel movements, cat is eatting and drinking normally. Tom is very large 18 pound , all muscle, not fat. Healthy up to now and up to date on vaccinations. FYI JJ has feline pica! On 5th day, abdomin is more distended.
