MY CAT DIED THIS MORNING AT 8:00AM. I WAS AWAKED TO TRASHING NOISES AND WHEEZING. HE EXPELLED HIS FECES AND URINE. I TRIED TO GET HIM UP NO USE. I CALLED EMERGENCY BUT BY THE TIME I GOT MY CLOTHES ON HE WAS GONE. HE WAS 16 TO 18 YEARS OLD AND VERY OVER WEIGHT WITH FATTY TUMORS. I PUT SEVERAL DROPS OF ATOMIDINE IN A SMALL BOTTLE OLD BUT CLEAN ANTIBIOTIC BOTTLE AND FILLED IT WITH WATER. I GAVE HIM 1/2 A DROPPER FULL ALMOST EVERY MORNING FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS. HIS EYES BECAME BRIGHT AND HE SEEMED TO HAVE A LOT LESS PAIN AND SOME OF THE HARDNESS IN THE FATTY TUMORS SEEMED TO BE SOFTER. NOW, I WONDER DID I KILL HIM? I FEEL TERRIBLE! HE SUCH A SWEET CAT AND SO GOOD TO THE OTHER CATS!

Hello, I'm Dr. Bob.I'm so sorry to read of Blackie's death. It is possible that you may have overdosed Blackie, but unlikely.Atomidine contains six times the average daily requirement of iodine for an adult human being in each drop. Depending on how large the antibiotic bottle used happened to be, he could have been receiving a rather large dose every day. Although at his age of 16 to 18 years, many other things could have been the cause of his death, the timing is admittedly curious. The iodine in the Atomidine may have stimulated his thyroid to produce more thyroid hormone which, in turn, could have produced the good effects you saw. His weight would tend to indicate that he may have been hypothyroid and the stimulation by the Atomidine may have been correcting that condition. But it could be that his other organs simply couldn't withstand the increased strain. There is no way to finally determine what happened, but this is one possibility. If I may be of further assistance to you, or if you should have more questions, please let me know.My sincere condolences,Dr. Bob
THANK YOU DOCTOR! I WILL NEVER GIVE ATOMIDINE TO A CAT AGAIN1 I TAKE 3 DROPS A DAY IN A GLASS OF WATER MYSELF AND IT MAKES ME FEEL GREAT! THEN I GET BUSY AND I FORGET TO TAKE IT FOR A WHILE. THE VET DID TELL ME IODINE WAS TOXIC TO CATS BUT HE WAS HAVING SO MUCH TROUBLE MOVING AROUND. ARE YOU SURE I DIDN'T KILL HIM ? HE WAS SUCH A SWEET LOVABLE THING!
Hello again. We'll never know if the dose he got was enough to poison him, but I seriously doubt it. There is a very large difference between the minimum daily dose and a fatally toxic dose. I suspect rather that it was like "gunning the engine" in an old car. Things that were just barely functioning can break under excessive stimulation. The best life any cat can have is a long won with a loving owner. It is quite evident that Blackie had exactly that! You were doing your best for him, but I believe his poor old body was just worn out, and couldn't function for long under the increased pressure. If I may be of any more help to you, please do let me know.Best regards,Dr. Bob
THANK YOU SO MUCH DOCTOR!
