I have a cat with Leukemia, she is about 7 months old and today she has become lifeless. She has thrown up a white flem 6 times within the last 3 hours. I realize the prognosis for her but it bothers me to see her like this. My question is, based on this description does she sound like she is in stage 6 or Laten stage? Thank you Kenneth Palm Burlison, TN

Welcome! I would be happy to assist you. I am a 2003 graduate from UC Davis and a Medical Director of a veterinarian practice.Hello Kenneth, STage of disease does not matter. Why?Well, we don't even know if the vomiting is due to leukemia. I have seen many cats live for years with feline leukemia. Now, she is in serious shape, no doubt. She needs immediate veterinary supportive care without question. But, we need to differentiate if the vomiting is due to viral disease or some other cause including:- Dietary indiscretion (eating something you do not know about)- Stomach or intestinal foreign body- Something that was given to them (new food, new treat, human food)- Intestinal parasitism (not just the worms, but the microscopic bugs like Giardia and Coccidia). They can cause vomiting also, not just diarrhea- Toxin exposure would be less likely, unless you have reason to suspect exposure to a chemical. So, regardless of stage, if her quality of life cannot be improved with supportive care, than we know euthanasia is a appropriate consideration.
