Hi have a male cat who is 16 years old, has lost weight over last month and now feels quite bony as compared to before, have noticed a small 'cyst' like lump on his back near tail area, has a distended stomach but does not appear to be in pain when touched or stroked/handled. Was eating normally, now starting eat less, drinking and using litter tray.
Good Morning and welcome to Just answer. I am Dr. Loretta, a licensed veterinarian and I am happy to answer your question.
Most likely Rag Tag is suffering from Liver Failure or Heart Failure. I say this because the first signs are anorexia, weight loss and ascites fluid building up in his abdomen giving him this pot bellied appearance. The cyst you see is probably not related to this and is a benign skin tumor that will not harm him. It is best to have your vet examine Ragtag and run lab work in order to determine the cause.Treatments can help him although there probably is not a cure....does that make sense to you?
