Hi my cat keeps being sick he is 12 1/2 years old, he brings up hair balls nearly on a daily basis despite giving him catalax. Any suggestions he is his normal self running around the house, he is an indoor cat, using his litter box with no problems.
Optional Information: Type of Animal: short haired cat Gender: Male Age: 12 1/2 years old Name of Cat: Spock Already Tried: Catalax and changing his food, we do not give dried food as he has had bladder chrystals in the past and if u give him dried food he brings it back up undigested
Good Morning and welcome to Just answer. I am Dr. Loretta, a licensed veterinarian and I am happy to answer your question.
Spock is vomiting every day because he has a hair ball that is causing a mild obstruction in his digestive tract and the best way to resolve this is to give a dose of Calalax every 4 hrs for the first day and then twice daily for the next week. This is common in older cats because their digestive system is not as competent to resolve this hair mass like when Spock was younger. He needs a little more help.If this does not resolve this, then have your vet examine him...this could be more serious such as kidney disease.
does the catalax help the hair balls pass through the digestive tract and pass naturally.
yes, it acts as a laxative to help slide the masses of hair through the tract. the fact that Spock is vomiting so much means that there is a mass somewhere past where he could throw them up but it is still making him feel nauseous....this needs help to pass.
ok thanks i will try giving the catalax the way you have said .
