What do I do for cat with constipation?
Optional Information: Type of Animal: Cat Gender: Female Age: 2yrs Name of Cat: Kitty Already Tried: Nothing yet
Hello!Thank you for your question, I'm Dr. Dan and I'll try to help you. What symptoms are you seeing that make you believe she is constipated? Is she producing any stool at all? Dr. Dan
Yes, but not as it seems she should. Also she thru her food up a few minutes ago. I don't know if she over ate or if she is constipated.
What did the vomit look like? Was it just moist food or was their yellow in it? Does she eat fast? Is she making a larger than average number of trips to the litter box? Dr. Dan
Like she had swallowed it whole, but it was moist.
No more than average trips to box.
She does drink a lot of water.
To answer your first question I don't think she's constipated as typically constipated cats don't eat, are found frequently straining in the litter box trying desperately to defecate but nothing comes out. I would not treat her for constipation as likely that will make her vomit more. The whole food could mean that she either filled up her stomach too fast or what she ate didn't agree with her tonight. At this point I'd not feed her any more until the morning but allow her water. Keep an eye her. Often when cats vomit whole food it is a one time occurrence and they go back to feeling better in a few hours. If she continues to vomit or starts vomiting again then it's time to see the vet as vomiting is rarely successfully treated with oral meds from home. If you wish to try something wait a couple of hours and give her 1/4 of a zantac or pepcid (human regular strength) this may help her stomach. If she's back to normal in the morning, no worries. If not then I'd set up a vet appointment tomorrow to find out what really is going on. Dr. Dan
