Our cat is a year old. For the first 9 months she was very affectionate and playful. The past couple months she doesn't like to be touched and doesn't hang out with us like she used to. She still hangs out with the other cat like she always did. Is there something wrong with her?
Hi there and thanks for your question regarding your young girl who seems to be acting differently towards you kow
now
This isn't all too uncommon and is likely purely behavioral
In saying this however - if she hasn't yet been spayed (de-sexed) then it could well be that she has been in season for some of this time from 9 months of age. This would be a logical medical explanation for this behavior change
If she has been spayed however, this is all likely a behavioral issue
Is there something to do to get her to warm up to us again? She is spayed
To be certain however, next time you have her at your local Vet for a vaccination or full check over - do get them to carry out a full physical exam to ensure there isn't anything medically wrong with her
You should also ensure she is up to date with flea and worming meds in the mean time
It can be difficult to 'force' a cat to interact with you
But playing with her is the best place to start
she is
Get a few interactive toys that will help encourage her to play and interact with you
a laser is a good one, or even just a fluffy toy on the end of a some string that you can get her to chase around the house
we try but when you go near her she walks away. completely opposite of how she used to be
You can also win some cat's love with relatively regular food treats combined with combing or brushing
Generally there will be something that every cat will eventually respond to
This may be a food reward for one cat
Or a particular toy for another
It can be very difficult and because cats are quite independant you can force the issue either
It will basically just take a lot of persistance on your part - and of course - time
she takes treats but as soon as you touch her she goes away.
:-( It must be quite upsetting for you all
Keep on encouraging her to interact
Give her a few months
Slowly try and increase the amount of contact each time
Never force this though - or you will set yourself back several steps!!As above - do be sure to get a full physical carried out next time she is due for a check up.Kind Regards,
