My cat got into a non-toxic fly stick and has the gooey sticky stuff all over her fur - how do I remove?

Already Tried:
I washed her in a diluted solution of pinesol and rinsed her, but she is still sticky - I don't want her to be licking it off

Hello - I am Dr. Matt - I would be glad to help you with your question.

Sorry to hear about Tasha and the fly trap.

The safest way to wash her would be to first use vegetable oil to loosen up some of the sticky stuff - this may take 5-10 minutes of soaking therefore be patient. Then after it is loosened up use Dawn Dishwashing liquid to wash off the oil - the same that you would use in the sink to wash dishes. These are not toxic to cats and should help loosen up some of the sticky substance on her fur and then wash her off again. If this is not helping then she may need to have her fur gently clipped to help remove the sticky stuff as goo be gone and those substances are not safe for her.
