1) Is she an indoor only cat?
2) What color is the discharge from the nose?
3) When did this start?
discharge is clear
Both nostrils or just one?
hmmm, it looks like both
Here are some thoughts:
she keeps rubbing her nose with you right arm or paw to clear it
While other causes can not be ruled out, your history is consistent with a Feline Upper Respiratory Infection (LINK HERE)Allergies are possible but less likely. While not all cats show all the signs, common signs of a cat upper respiratory infection include:- Sneezing- Nasal Discharge - Ocular discharge (one or both)- Even decreased appetite, lethargy and vomiting.Although it is usually a viral cause - it can lead to a secondary bacterial infection. For this reason - some cats need antibiotics (especially if you note lethargy, loss of appetite, breathing changes, or yellow, green, or white discharge from the nose or eyes)Common antibiotics to consider in these cases includes:- Clavamox (LINK HERE)- Azithromycin (LINK HERE)For the signs you report above, your veterinarian may recommend options such as:- Humidification. You can either use a children's / baby's humidifier for 10-15 minutes twice daily, or using the steam from a hot shower you can attempt to humidify the air that your cat breathes. Finally - Lysine is a common addition to the therapy for cats with upper respiratory infections. The lysine stops the virus from replicating and therefore allows the immune system to better fight the infection (LINK HERE or LINK HERE)
