Thank you for your question regarding your cat who has a patch of hair missing under her chin/neck
This could well be related to the new food in causing a contact allergy with it - or there could be another underlying cause such as a flea allergy
What sort of bowl do you use for this girl?
Is she up to date with flea treatments?
ok thanks. She was eating a certain food that i could not find in my new city. so i got science diet. how quickly should i go back to the old stuff? Is switching the food back enough? or does she need medical attention>>
i live in NYC she doesnt get out or around much. i just had her for 3 months. I have not had her to the vet yet
If it is just simply the hair missing then don't panic - you can slowly switch her back to her regular diet to see if the hair returns
If the skin is reddened and sore - you will need to get her seen as she may well need an antibiotic course etc
ok yes her skin is red but im not sure if its sore.
i am going away for two days. do you think its ok to leave her on the old diet.?
or does she need change right now>/?
You can apply a very small amount of neosporin to the area a couple of times per day to see if this helps
You are best changing back on to the other food eventually to see if the hair returns, but you will need to do this slowly to prevent a stomach upset
Also be sure to get a flea/mite treatment for her
I'd recommend one called Advocate
in the meantime of me getting neosporine.
can i use an anti itch cream
or anything else around the house
No - many human products are toxic to cats
In this area as well --> she'll just paw it off, then lick her paw - so you have to be very careful
good to know
Yes -you must be very careful with cats
Try a very small amount of neosporin and rub it in well
Change her food back to what she was on (slowly)
Get an advocate flea/worming treatment on to her
And consider an elizabethan collar if she is scratching/pawing the area excessively
