What is a Mast Cell tumor in a CAT? I know they are rare in cats and my cat who's 20 in good health had one.She was operated on this week and seems fine. What is the prognosis?

Hello, I'm Dr. White and I will do my best to answer your questions. Mast cell tumor are skin tumors that are made up of mast cell which are cell in the body that produce histamine. Prognosis is good if all the tumor is removed at surgery. The only way to know if that happens is to have the tumor that was removed examined by a pathologist under a microscope. Did your vet submit the tumor for examination?

Yes it went out for biopsy yesterday

Just have to wait for the report. If the margins are clean than no more surgery will be needed. If the margins are not clean more tissue will need to be removed.
