can I give my cat amoxicillin -- strength is 250mg/5ml. If I have calculated correctly the dose would be 41 mg/day. I need to be sure that the same drug used for humans is safe for my cat.

It is safe to give amoxicillin to a cat and the human drug is the same as the animal drug. A 10 lb cat usually takes between 50 and 100 mg of amoxicillin twice daily. After amoxicillin has been mixed, though, it only lasts for about 10 days.
