My cat is 15 years old. She hasnt pooped the last 2 or 3

Resolved Question:

My cat is 15 years old. She hasn't pooped the last 2 or 3 days. She doesn't seem to be in any distress or bothered by it. She does sleep a lot but she's been doing that for the past year. She has been drinking a lot of water and my vet put her on different cat food that's for aging cats. She told me the drinking lots of water was not diabeties but that older cats start having kidney problems. THe not pooping thing is new

HI I am Dr. Skelding. I have a few questions.

Did your vet do any blood work to distinquish wheter she was having kidney issues, or diabetes, as Both will cause an increase in drinking.

Is Sweet Pea straining to defecate?

Customer: replied 6 years ago.

She did blood work a year ago when I told her she was drinking lots of water.

The vet put her on Hills Prescription DIet k/d feline Renal Health food.

She doesn't even seem to be trying to defecate.

About a week and a half ago I do remember letting out a slight cry when she did deficate, but other than that she seems her normal self. She's still drinking a lot.

She actually has an appointment with her vet for a physical tomorrow morning. Should I wait that long?
Expert:  Sue Skelding replied 6 years ago.

Bloodwork a year ago, is not relavent. Older cats get a syndrome where they can't defecate. Double that up with kidney disease or diabetes and you have a very constipated cat.

If she doesn't have kidney disease, then waiting until Monday would be ok. But, if she has kidney disease she could be much worse by Monday.
