i have alot of stray cats around my country home and alot of the kittens are inbred. the kittens after about 5 weeks start having eyes that are pus filled and matted shut. i clean them daily with water, but the kittens normally die within a few weeks. i cannot afford to take them to a vet but i would like to help them
Hi There, This is one of the very difficult problems with stray animals. Stray kittens have a much higher incidence of death vs kittens are are not strays. Some of this has to do with Stray Mom not really having enough antibiodies to the kittens for them to be able to fight off infections. Once kittens are about 5-6 weeks old, some of Moms antibodies begin to wear off and Fading Kitten Syndrome can begin, where some of the kittens fade and die. It is possible that even if you had a million dollars to help these kittens, you might not be able to, due to the various diseases that spread through the stray cats, and poor immunity of some of these kittens. You can speak to your local vet and see if they might be willing to send you with some antibiotics to place in the eyes and the mouth of the kittens, but this means you have to regularly follow up with them I hope this has helped. If it has please click the accept button. If you have more questions pertaining to this subject, feel free to ask. Sincerely Dr. Henderson
