Has anyone aver investigated using pyridium for cats with idiopathic cystitis?

Hi there

The answer to this is no- the reason being that the active ingredient in pyridium- 'phenazopyridine' is actually toxic to cats and it's use may result in death.

It causes damage to the cats hemoglobin molecule (similar to carbon monoxide poisoning) so that the molecule is unable to carry oxygen properly, in addition it also causes an abnormality on the surface of the red blood cell that results in anemia (Heinz body anemia).

In conclusion, the use of pyridium in cats is to be strongly discouraged!
