Snow plowing/Landscaping

Customer Question

I am pricing a snowplowing contract. How do I go about pricing? Is there a formula that I can use as a rule of thumb? The parking lot is for a shopping center.

I need the same info for landscaping.

Try using the amount of $$ you want to make per hour. I
think $40 - 50 for plowing is the bare minimum, when you
consider your equipment and overhead. The rate should be
higher for jobs with special issues, like lots that can only be
plowed in the middle of the night or which need plowing
after every two inches of snow. I assume you can estimate
how long it takes you to plow a given lot, and convert this
into a quote. If not, think twice before bidding, as you
might be getting in over your head.

For cutting grass, the rate is probably a little lower, but it
depends on whether you are doing a top quality job or
simply knocking it down with a push mower. People are
willing to pay more for a reliable, careful service that does
not do things that annoy them, like ask to use the

Get to know others in the business if you can. Don't regard
them as threats, but as colleagues. There is usually plenty
of snow and grass to go around in New York.

Snowplowing is pretty straight forward and there is very little overhead so I usually rent myself out at anywhere from $50.00 to $75.00 per hour for a regular sized pickup truck and driver.

If it's a small job I charge at the higher end because it is actually more work than a bigger job. A large lot (shopping center) means I will be there a while and I am not going anywhere wasting money on traveling from job to job so I usually charge $50.00 per hour.

Landscaping is the same except all my supplies are added on. All contracts are iffy. They are a risk. If you figure x amount of dollars for a snowplowing season and you get little snow, you make out. I it's a snowy season, you get burnt. That's why I use the hourly figure and send a monthly invoice.

Hope this helped:)
