JA: What is the model/year of your Volvo?
Customer: 2000 S80 T6
JA: Are you fixing your S80 yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I would like to if I can. I haven't done anything yet, I just found it this morning. My coolant was low so I assume its a coolant leak. I filled it back of and had more water/coolent pool up with in about five minutes.
JA: How old are the hoses? And have you tested the actual mix of your coolant?
Customer: We just had very cold weather over the weekend as well. It was fine on Friday and I just found the water this morning.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: No

have you been able to verify if it is antifreeze or just pure water?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Yeah I pulled out the mat and could smell the faint smell of antifreeze.

then this is your heater core that is leaking. and will need to be replaced. this is a pretty invasive job and I would not recommend taking on this task on your own.

Your certain of it?

yes if it was clean water then I woukd say you probably have a plugged condensation drain line but if you smell anhint of antifreeze and the leak is inside the vehicle then it is 100% the core.

You don't think its something I could do? Whats the invasive part?

you hae remove the entire dashboard assembly from the vehicle

I will correct myself other Volvos require the removal of the dashboard however this one is lot less invasive in that regard but does require service to the airbag system. I can upload the instructions here if you would like and you can decided for yourself if this is something you wish to attempt.

Would the low temperatures cause the core to fail? What would cause it to fail.

different things can cause failures. sometimes the seals just were out other times there is a t of electrolysis going on. and cold temps can cause it if there is not enough antifreeze mixed into the water.

I found this video, do you think this is realistic? I think I could do this.
