ESC OFF & ABS lights on 2008 veracruz, ESC OFF light & ABS

Customer Question

ESC OFF & ABS lights on 2008 veracruz
JA: Is it just the ABS light? Or is the brake system warning light on, too?
Customer: ESC OFF light & ABS light
JA: Are you fixing your Veracruz yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Right now, I'm at dealership. I thought the problem might be the stop lamp switch after doing some research. But, they're telling me there is no active recalls for my vehicle. Is this something I can repair myself?
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: No

Has the dealership scanned the ABS control module fault code and if so, have they told you what the fault codes and/or definition are?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I think they are doing this now. But, they have not given me any info yet.

Ok, for me to know if the source of the problem is something you can repair yourself, I do need to know what it is. While it could be the brake light switch which is in fact easy to replace yourself, it could also be the abs control module itself, one of the wheel speed sensors, the yaw rate sensor, the steering angle sensor, or a wiring harness issue. Some of those are easily replaced with basic tools, some do require a dealer level scan tool to do programming after the part is replaced.
