Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!
Many older vehicles actually used rubber hoses in the fuel system with clamps on different locations.
You can usually buy quick connect repair kits to repair broken fuel lines like what you have. If you haven't already, try your local parts stores and see if they have anything available to be able to repair the line correctly.
If nothing is available then you can try rubber if necessary. Make sure the hose used is specifically for fuel and you'll want to use fuel line type hose clamps, which have a 360 degree clamp load area unlike other worm screw type clamps. Double clamping the connections would be a good idea if possible.
