Daewoo Leganza: What has happened to the engine when the Timing

This answer was rated:

What has happened to the engine when the Timing belt breaks during driving? Also what would happen if we tried to start the engine in these conditions, for example will any parts become damaged?

Car Details:
1999 Daewoo Legenza
Hello, it would be my pleasure to assist you tonight. This vehicle has an interference engine. When the timing belt breaks while running the valve will hit the piston and bend. It is also possible for the valves to damage the pistons. Trying to start it once the belt broke may make this damage worse. You will need to remove the cylinder head and have it checked and valves replace and also check the tops of the pistons for damage.
