It sounds like a blown head gasket or the exhaust valve not seating, possibly bent valve. I would start off with doing a compression test. then remove the head on the side that fails the test.

It is a 2011 Dodge Ram 2500, Cummins 6.7 liter diesel engine 4x4

Glad to be of help. The only things that can cause this are if someone put gasoline in the tank or your injection pump is bad. Smell your fuel to see if you can smell gasoline. If you don't smell gasoline in fuel, replace your injection pump.
