tims auto repair :

hi

tims auto repair :

will the transfer case go into low?

tims auto repair :

or,,does the switch lights just flash and does nothing?

Customer :

hear it clunk but lights still just flash

tims auto repair :

but..does it go into low?

Customer :

no

tims auto repair :

it is stuck in high?

Customer :

you can hear the incoder motor run

tims auto repair :

i underwstand

tims auto repair :

but,,we know it isnt shifting the case

tims auto repair :

if so..it should go to low even if the front dont pull

Customer :

used transfer case but fluid was green and transfer case worked in outer truck

tims auto repair :

what is it stuck in

tims auto repair :

2wd high?

Customer :

you can feel it go in low

tims auto repair :

but is it in low?

Customer :

thats what it seems.

tims auto repair :

yif it is in low,,the truck will have allot of power and shift through the gears quickl

tims auto repair :

and wont even go 50mph

Customer :

i know I will go try it right now

tims auto repair :

ok

tims auto repair :

let me know if it gos into low

tims auto repair :

then,,let me know if it will go into high

tims auto repair :

i would think it is stuck in one of those

Customer :

it goes into low. but then the trans shifts had and slow 5000 rpm

tims auto repair :

so..you are saying it will shift to low....

tims auto repair :

and into high also?

Customer :

seems to go in to high also but light still flashes and no front wheel spin

tims auto repair :

ok

Customer :

light only stays on in 2 high

tims auto repair :

you are certain that it is going into high and low

Customer :

yes

tims auto repair :

i dont think it is from what you are saying

Customer :

I was an auto mechanic (certified) but dont do it anymore

tims auto repair :

so ..you are certain..right

Customer :

yes

tims auto repair :

did you ninstall a new encoder.,,or used?

Customer :

used the one that was with the transfercase

tims auto repair :

ok

tims auto repair :

i think the encoder isnt working

tims auto repair :

but,,you say it is...

tims auto repair :

did you install the encoder with it in 2hi?

Customer :

I know it is going in low. but cant tell on high because light just flashes on 4 high. light stay on in 2 high

Customer :

yes

tims auto repair :

when you drive it in high

tims auto repair :

you should be able to tell if it really is in high

Customer :

i tried 2 incoder motors on the old transfer case

tims auto repair :

you should be able to cruise at 70mph with no problem if it is in high

Customer :

yes it shifts to high but still only rear wheels pulling.can go 120 in high

tims auto repair :

ok

tims auto repair :

now,,lets get this straight

tims auto repair :

it is also shifting to low

Customer :

dont think i could do that in low. ha! ha!

tims auto repair :

no

tims auto repair :

lol

tims auto repair :

so,,we are sure it also gos to low..also,,right

Customer :

yes cant go very fast, has lots of engine rpm

tims auto repair :

ok

tims auto repair :

now,,,i need to know....does the front drive shaft turn in 4low?

Customer :

can see under the truck when I'm testing it in low

tims auto repair :

yes..you will need a helper

Customer :

can i put it in and crawl under and try toi turn the drive shaft

tims auto repair :

yes

Customer :

hold on

tims auto repair :

it would also be nice if the front of the truck was off the ground

tims auto repair :

because if the front locks in you cant turn it either

tims auto repair :

we are trying to determine if your problem is in the front or the case

Customer :

ok drive shaft willnot turn in 4 low or 4 high. will turn in 2 hi

Customer :

have left tire of ground could still turn it

Customer :

are you there

tims auto repair :

yes

tims auto repair :

you could turn the drive shat with it in 4low?

Customer :

no

Customer :

nor in 4high

tims auto repair :

ok

Customer :

but can in 2 high

tims auto repair :

ok

tims auto repair :

if the case is going into low and into high

tims auto repair :

but,,it isnt locking the front shat with it

tims auto repair :

the case is no good

tims auto repair :

the chain may be broken in it

Customer :

what case

tims auto repair :

\the transfer case

tims auto repair :

fact is

Customer :

yes the drive shaft doesn't turn when in 4low or 4high. but does in 2high

tims auto repair :

ok

tims auto repair :

sorry..i miss understood

tims auto repair :

you problem is in the front actuator

tims auto repair :

on the differencial

tims auto repair :

you may have a bad wire from the engine install

tims auto repair :

i am going to find you a wire diagram

Customer :

if i pull it off how can i see if it is in the diff or the

tims auto repair :

but...you will need to give me a moment

tims auto repair :

we know its the front

Customer :

ok

tims auto repair :

sense the case locks the drive shaft

Customer :

tims auto repair :

Customer :

tims auto repair :

not likley

tims auto repair :

other than the actuator
