It is a 1995 Mercedes SL320 with 131,000 miles. We have tried the center dash lock next to the phone controls, the trunk lock and the door locks to no avail. We cannot try the remote as it is dead. We are not sure if it is a fuse, a vacuum tube or ?? The manual is in the driver's side compartment so it is not much help.

This console door should not be electrically nor mechanically controlled by an outside source. The door release lever is most likely faulty. You will need to try and pry it open at the latch so you can replace the handle and latch mechanism that has failed.
