suzuki ZL7 suv: how to stop steering wheel from squaking when

This answer was rated:

how to stop steering wheel from squaking when turning atvery slow speeds, like parking? sounds like a rubber against metal. Suzuki XL7 2008
Hello

there's a couple of possible sources for the noise

1st one is the strut top mounts ,to feel if there's a worn strut top bearing then lightly hold the spring by hand and have your assistant move the steering from left to right with the wheel on the ground - a worn bearing will feel 'notchy' through the spring. The wheel needs to be on the ground for the test to load up the bearing

if this is OK then try spraying the steering column universal joints ( UJ's) with WD40

there's one in the engine bay at the top of the rack and another inside the car in the footwell
