Hello, Thank you for choosing Just Answer! I look forward to working with you, and don't worry, there are no problems, only solutions!
Sorry, I hit enter accidently and it posted my introduction. Give me a minute or two and I'll have a full explaination for you
A little moisture from the exhaust during warmup is normal, but from what you describe, it is possible that your car has other problems. Billowing white smoke while the engine is under load such as you describe, can be caused by coolant entering the combustion chamber. In other words, your water from your cooling system may be getting turned into water vapor because it is entering the area of your engine that the fuel goes in to get burned. This can be caused by a number of things such as a cracked engine block, or more likely, a failed cylinder head gasket. Perhaps the most effective way to narrow it down is to smell the vapors while the car is idling. Of course, you should not inhale any significant amount of exhaust fumes, but when you are near the car and it is idling, a sweet sort of smell would indicate that coolant, rather then straight water condensate is being burned/boiled.
Other possibilities include automatic transmission fluid leaking onto hot exhaust components and overfilled oil levels.
Hi its a manual not an auto and its not using any water, the radiator and the fill up tank thing are both full
Does the exhaust have any particular smell? Is your oil clear or does it have any milky consistancy?
sorry, the oil is clear
and I havent noticed any smell
if you can hang on I will start the car and have a smell
OK
ok it smells like a sort of fuel and oil smell, very faint tnough
I see, there is also the possiblity that the car is over fueling (running rich) although this usually reuslts in more of a grayish to blackish vapor that doesn't immediately dissipate. Has there been any work done on the car recently? Has it always done this?
No work done recently and no it hasnt always done this
Another possiblity is moisture in the fuel. You did say that there was a slight fuel odor, and moistue in the fuel can cause emissions of unburned fuel from the tailpipe accompanied by water vapors. You might want to try adding a bit of methyl alcohol to your tank on your next fill up and see if that doesn't make a difference.
ok, thanks for your help
