2002 Land Rover, (Freelander) Tranny started to slip. Now when you start the car it runs perfectly until you shift into any gear, then it dies. Is this a tranmission issue or a inhibitor switch?
as soon as you shift it into any gear it just stalls out ? will it roll in neutral ? will it stall if you shift into neutral ?
It will roll in netural, and it does not stall in netural.
ok more than likey something inside the transmission has failed and is frozen up due to when it was slipping before for you when you were driving it.since it will not stall in neatral and it will roll in neatral then there is an internal failure possily the forward clutch was slipped so much the clutch plates got so hot they burnt up and have fused themselves together .that transmission will have to be removed and rebuilt or replaced to correct this problem
It actually was not slipping before. This just happened. Everything was fine, with no indication of any problem. My grand-daughter was at a light and the transmission slipped the one time. She was able to drive it home. Actually the car is at her home. However, I know it will start in netural, but not 100% certain that it wil roll. Will that change anything?
not really.what ever she felt when it slipped was something failing inside the transmission.
