My mechanic who looks after this car has been reluctant to add anything to the gearbox oil, as he says its completely clean, is synthetic oil & he doesn't know what type of additive to use without risking damaging either the oil or, as a result, the gearbox.Could you be so kind as to give me more details of the aditive we should use? Looking forward to your reply,Denys

Do you have my original correspondence with the Just Answer expert?:ORIGINAL QUESTIONI have a 2004 Range Rover (Vogue) with V8 BMW petrol engine & automatic gear-box.The gearbox as started to shift up & down repeatedly. This is most noticeable at constant medium-range speeds. Also, if driving harder, it will shudder as it is changing down.Do you know what this could be caused by and where to look to remedy it?YrsDenysCountry: BrazilMake: Land RoverModel: Range Rover HSEYear: 2004Engine: V8 BMW petrolNo indicating lights on the dash. The car has done 150,000 kilometres. As far as I know, nothing has been done to the gearbox.I am the second owner. I have recently bought a HawkEye diagnostic tool, which I haven't yet used, but the local Land Rover agents could not find the cause of the fault.Yrs.,DenysYesHave you checked the level and condition of the transmission fluid? At this point being that you do not have any error lights on I would suggest adding a transmission additive and seeing if that takes care of the problem. There is an additive that is sort of like a detergent that helps clean a film build up off of the transmission clutch plates. A lot of times the torque converter will do this same thing and it causes a chatter type effect as well. You should be able to find this additive at the advanced auto or autozone nearest to you. There a quite a few to choose from. Lucas makes a good non slip additive. I would suggest giving this a try dirt of all. Remember, it takes a few days for the product to work because it has to work its way through th trams as well as it havering to be used as a means of cleaning itself. This is what I would try first with the condition you are describing. Also possibly have the fluid and filter changed as well if it's over due.
hi i am shannon i have read your post . i would try one of these two additives Seafoam transmission or K&W Trans X they both have a laquire thinner in them will cut through build up on the valves in the valve body.
add one bottle into transmission oil drive for 50 km at different speeds. to get cleaner on all valve parts.if the treatment works then flush the trans fluid with at lest 12 Qrts of fluid. replace the filter and add 1/2 bottle of the cleaner to kept in the transmission (gear box)
Thanks for your answer Shannon,
Some additional questions, please:
Looking forward to your reply.
Kind regards, Denys
personalty i like the K&W . the active ingredient smells like acid-tone.but i am sure there is some kind of balance to there formula. i would never put acid tone in to a trans.
K&W was bought buy CRC corp. hear is there AU. info
