I have a new (1100 mi) 500S "Pop" standard transmission. Just today started making a clicking sound when DEcellerating. The rate of clicks parallels speed, is BEtter with the clutch engaged, and sounds like something slapping the pavement as the tire rotates. Best similarity I can think of is the sound a playing card made when clothespinned to the frame of my bike as the wheel spokes hit it when I was a kid. I cound see nothing stuck or lodged onto the tire or axel. Thanks

Hi Customer, Jeff here- sorry to hear you Fiat's making a strange noise.
It sounds like something has failed in the final drive train; unloading it on deceleration lessens the severity of the noise but it's still there-is that correct? The final drive train includes the transmission, differential, CV joints and wheel bearings. CV joints are the most likely of the group to produce a loud noise that varies under different conditions-usually while making very tight turns.
Your visual inspection was a great idea, but since it didn't reveal anything that looked abnormal the next place your Fiat should go is to the dealer or repair shop. A proper inspection would involve two techs: one would operate the vehicle while raised on a lift, and another searches for the source of the noise-which may be something trivial like a loose splash panel hitting the tire.
I don't find any bulletins or references to your symptoms, so I'd advise you to have the vehicle inspected soon. If you ahve any more questions, or find the csuse of the noise, please let me know.
Jeff
thanks. To clarify, noise is present only when decelerating, not with acceleration, and is less noticeable when the clutch is in. I will take the car in Monday to the dealer. I hope it is nothing serious as I really like this fun little car. I don't usually perchase new line autos, but couldn't resist this stylish, zippy convertable. I will try to let you know the outcome.
Thanks for getting back online. I hope all goes well and that it's nothing serious. Jeff
