Customer Question

How much should it cost to replace the vacc boost line that has the check valves, along with the brake vac pump. And does the a new line still fail in the future

Optional Information:
Make: Saab
Model: 93 aero six cyl
Year: 2008

Already Tried:
diag at local dealer, cost of repair, $ 950 dollars. Was told to do both the pump and the line with check valves, because most times the vac pump has been dammaged, and if only the lines is done, and the problem is still there, then the labor cost would be the same to replace the pump, which would mean double labor cost to me. Is this possible covered by GM

eurotec :

Hi, the vacuum pump can be tested to see if it is operational before it is replaced. If the pump is working I would only replace the vacuum line. The pump is a $550 part. I don't see the point in replacing the pump if it is still working. The labor charge to replace the pump should be less than 1 hour so it's not a major expense if it needs to be done in the future.

eurotec :

The labor charge to replace the vacuum pipe should be in the 2 hour range.

eurotec :

I show the vacuum pipe to be $192.

Customer :

Thank you, the line cost between $ 160 and $ 190 dollars. What is the labor time to just replace the line, and did GM redesign the new lines so they won't fail again, or withing a short period.

eurotec :

I'd expect about a 2 hour labor charge to replace the line but it can actually be done in about an hour.

eurotec :

I cannot say for sure if the lines are redesigned.

Customer :

Also, do the 4 cly 2008 and newer, have the same vac line and pump early failure issues ?? I think that this is only a problem with the 6 cyl cars. I was also told by the dealer that they could not check the pump, guess they just wanted to make the extra bucks. Thanks Henry clover SC

eurotec :

The 4 cylinder uses a mechanical vacuum pump and a different hose. I don't think I have seen a failure on the 4 cylinder yet.

eurotec :

They can certainly check the pump.

eurotec :

Is there anything else that I can help you with?

eurotec :
