Customer Question

2000 Isuzu Trooper is stalling at idle. Idle is erratic...speeds up, slows down, drops below 300 rpm and coughs and dies.

I've changed plugs, air filter, fuel filter & pcv valve. When running, I can hear a hissing sound, so I thought I had a vacuum leak. Sprayed throttle body cleaner around and got an rpm surge around throttle body. Cleaned and checked all hoses; they all seemed sound and didn't make any difference.

Now I'm thinking that I've got a cracked intake manifold gasket.

Question: Could a cracked manifold gasket be causing my problem? Is there a test beyond what I've done to confirm a cracked manifold gasket. If so, and that's my problem...what do I need to know to perform this repair. Can't find any manual for my vehicle...are there any diagrams that identify what the components under the hood are? What about a description of procedures for removing the intake manifold and replacing the gasket?

I'm a very visual guy, so diagram or photos would be really helpful.

Thanks.

Hello and Welcome to Just Answer!

My name is XXXXX XXXXX X have been working on these vehicle for a long time.
The answer to your question is YES. A cracked intake manifold gasket can definitely cause this issue. YES.. another that that can be done is to get your intake system smoked checked for leaks with a smoke machine.

I cannot copy and paste any manuals because it is against copy write laws do to so, but you do have a few options. You could go to alldata or Mitchell on demand and get the diagrams your need for a small one time fee, you could all any dealership that fixes these types of vehicle and the parts guys will be happy to send you pictures and diagrams of your engine at no charge.

already joined alldata, and was very unhappy with the level of detail for the price I paid. I'm looking for step-by-step instructions on how to effect this repair, accompanied by photos and diagrams. So far, I've come nowhere close to this level of detail.
