struts, stabilizer links, bushings and tires..defective

Resolved Question:

If no problem detected with struts, stabilizer links, bushings and tires, dealer said that the thumping/bottom noise when riding on imperfect roads/bumps, is due to defective engine mount. Could this be the case? Thanks.

Dj :

Hello and thank you for trusting Just Answer with your question. I'm Dj

Dj :

It's possible but not likely.

Dj :

If the motor mounts were bad, it would take a big, really big bump to get the engine to move enough to cause a sound.

Dj :

You would feel a fibration transmitted into the vehicle when the engine was idling.

Dj :

You would feel a knock or big bump sound when you went from accelerating to decelerating. Just by thumping the throttle pedal you would be able to get the engine to rock and make sound.

Dj :

So if most or all of these symptoms are correct, then I would suspect the mounts.

Dj :

But if you run over a small bump and it makes noise, it's not the motor mounts.

Dj :

What kind of vehicle is this?

Customer:

2004 infiniti i35

Customer:

I think the dealer wanted to charge for something that was not broken.

Dj :

First off, I would be really surprised to see broken motor mounts on a 2004 Infiniti.

Customer:

Thanks a lot.
