Hello

This sounds like a broken crank sensor to me and they're not expensive to replace

however the fault code is for a faulty knock sensor and this shouldn't stop the car so I'd suspect that there may also be a faulty earth connection

so if the crank sensor is OK then double check over the tightness of the engine / gearbox earth strap and that the battery earth is on the post is tightly connected and bright and clean

the other possibility is a faulty ECU so if the other checks don't help then I'd suggest sending the ECU off to this firm

Thank you for replies. Thick snow outside this A.M. so twill have to wait.
My man has just used a novice to replace the clutch, so the earth strap sounds a good possible

Hello Derek

To locate the earth, follow the wires down from the negative battery connection and you should find an earth strap
its normally a heavy black wire thats connected to one of the gearbox / engine bolts

I served my time on the spanners from 1940-1944 then Self propelled guns
1945/47 when everything was simple plugs, points and coils.
Found the strap thanks. Good and solid.Move on to your next suggestions; whatever and where they are.
I am loathe to sign you off yet, in case you disappear.

Hello Derek

don't worry about pressing accept until you're satisfied with the answer

however we can carry on after you've pressed accept anyway

If you've got a multimeter you can measure the resistance between the pins of the crank sensor as it should be about 150-300ohms and check over its connection as I've suggested
