Resolved Question:

My 1997 Jimmy 4.3L motor just stoped running at highway speed. Pulled over and was able to start it and get home. the condition got worse and there is no response to the first key position. The motor cranks but won't start. I tried a replacement vcm. No change.Im thinking ignition control module next.

So you are sure you are getting no spark?

With the key in the ignition there is no lights on the dash.

In that case I would say the ignition switch is the problem.

I think it might be the ignition control module. What do you think.
Expert:  Neal replied 5 years ago.
The ignition module will no prevent power from getting to the instrument panel but the ignition switch will. And if the ignition switch is not right it will not send power to the vcm and the ignition module.
