2000 Isuzu Rodeo: LS..3.5L..V6 engine..99,000, the check engine light

Resolved Question:

I have a 2000 Isuzu Rodeo LS with 3.5L V6 engine. At 99,000, the check engine light turned on. EGR valve replaced plus radiator hoses and gas filter. Now, burns 1 to 1 1/2 quart oil every 3000 miles. Did not happen before EGR valve replacement. Is there other problem?

Hi welcome to JA.com.I will answer your question the best I can,

Do you notice a lot of tail end exhaust smoke when you start and accelerate the engine .

Regards Greg
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
No tail pipe or exhaust smoke. But the tail pipe has a black residue.
Expert:  Greg replied 5 years ago.
Remove the exhaust manifold and check for oil residue and with a mirror check which valves are covered in oil .

What do the spark plugs look like .

Check for blocked PCV valve this is one of the biggest culprits .

Hi. I'm sorry that I have not been in touch. I was in the ER and had a surgery to remove my gall bladder. As soon as I am able, I will take care of this situation with my vehicle. Thank you for your patience.

Had the PCV replaced and the oil change last week of November. I'm doing a lot of driving since I went back to work. Seems everyting is fine. Have not added any oil and I put in almost 1,000 miles. Will keep you updated on the results when I reach 3,000 miles. Thank you,

The problem is still there. Decided to just trade in the car. Might be a major engine problem that I don't want to spend my money on. Thank you for your advice.

Hi,

Sorry to hear this and yes i would also say it could be internal problem, like piston oil rings or valve stem seals.

Wish you all the best and have a great new year .

Kindest regards Greg
