diesel..dash lights appear but the starter motor doesnt fire

Resolved Question:

I just bought a landrover 90 diesel from the MOD.
When I turn the ignition the dash lights appear but the starter motor doesn't fire.
Is there some knack to starting an old landrover?

Does the glow plug light come on then go put when cycling the key?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
The oil and battery light appear at first notch, the choke light appears at full turn.
Not actually sure what the glow plug light is. Not had a diesel before :-/

Ok if you turn the key to on wait 15 seconds then try to start will it turn over ? Does it ever crank over?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
No:-(
Have tried turning key for 15-20secs at both first notch and full turn then tried to start but it never cranks
Expert:  Tom replied 5 years ago.
Ok first thing you need to check is of there is power and ground to the starter when having someone crank it over. If there is the starter and solenoid are bad and need to be replaced. If there is not it can be a bad electrical part of the ignition switch , starter relay or bad ground . Also make sure the engine is not seized that it moves with a ratchet and socket on the crank pulley. These are the next steps. Hoped this helped. Positive feedback and bonuses greatly appreciated.
