Honda Civic: engage..any gear: D, 2 L or reverse..linkage

Resolved Question:

Honda Civic 2002 about 90000 miles. The transmission does not engage in any gear: D, 2 L or reverse. Is it really dead or is there a loss of connection between the shift level and the transmission- a linkage problem?
