99 Corolla: P0136 and P0440 codes...Will

Customer Question

Just failed test on 99 Corolla with P0136 and P0440 codes and need to get renewed plates.
Will "Guaranteed to Pass" help with this until the "real" fix?
If reset, how long will it NOT register until the State examines the car?
Even if these codes are reset, will the actual test show . . .what ???

Steve :

Hello and Welcome to Justanswer, My name is Steve and I am here to try and assist your with your question

Steve :

you take it to a shop spend the waiver money on diag and get a waiver for two years.

Steve :

you will have two years to fix the codes

Steve :

make sure a certified emission expert works on the car and signs the waiver form.

Steve :

you take the waiver form to the test station and they will waiver the emissions

JACUSTOMER-5xxxg2t5- :

What's the waiver money and what is the cause of the recorded codes?

Steve :

the waiver is you have to spend 150 dollars to try and fix it

Steve :

the code is for a bad 02 sensor

Steve :

the 02 sensor needs replaced or the oxygen sensor

JACUSTOMER-5xxxg2t5- :

which code for which sensor? What is the other code for, how do I track the cause down? Are you sure it is only $150 for waiver? Also, it doesn't seem they (the State) wants to wait that long for me to fix!?

Steve :

hi

Steve :

what state are you in?

JACUSTOMER-5xxxg2t5- :

IL

JACUSTOMER-5xxxg2t5- :

It seems they actually want me to spend 2-1/2 times that

JACUSTOMER-5xxxg2t5- :

Found a couple of loose hoses, clamped tightly, cleared the codes. do you think they will retest as it seems the MIL has nothing to show!?

Steve :

drive it 50 miles and if the light does not come back on it should pass.
