2001 Sebring: 30 miles..warm air the compressor..high pressure

Resolved Question:

I have a 2001 Sebring convertiable the heater switch has neverworked on a low setting. Now the ac works when the car has been sitting but with in 30 miles starts blowing warm air the compressor then cylces on and off. Sometimes it honks and squeals and vibrants the high pressure line. It's just undependable. A dealer replaced the BCM and I had it recharged and replaced the high pressure cut out nothing has helped.

Hello and welcome to JustAnswer.com!

There is a technical service bulletin for the noise you describe and the fix is to replace the expansion valve with an updated part.

The updated part number is XXXXX

What happens is the expansion valve freezes up and ice forms causing it to honk and vibrate. Also this can cause pressure to go crazy which would cause your compressor to kick off.

Definitely need to start by recovering the refrigerant, replacing this part, installing a vacuum pump to pump the system to vacuum for at least 45 minutes and then recharging it with 27oz (1.69lb) or R134a refrigerant.

As far as your blower not working on low this is due to a bad blower motor resistor. There is an updated part for this too 05174124AA.
