97 jeep: cylinder..the gears ok- just no top end..clutch..compression

Resolved Question:

have a 97 jeep wrRrangler was at the beach for the first time and we were in flat sand where any csar was able to drive- but as soon as we hit the sand the jeep would not go- like there wasn't enough power to even spin the rear wheels- it is and very slow - it only goes around 65 - it is a 4 cylinder- but it seems to run through the gears ok- just no top end- when i got home i put the front wheels up against a curb and once again i had no power to go over it- it was supposed to have a new clutch-any thoughts- its at the dealer now and they want to check compression thanks

Thanks for using Just Answer.

They are going in the right direction. You need to verify the engine is sound. The 4 cylinder engine was weak anyway but it also doesn't have the best longevity either. Sounds like a power problem for sure - you need at least 2x's as much power to drive in sand than you do on the road.
