This is one of a few things that can cause this. If the noise comes from one wheel then it can be a shock strut that is going bad. The noise can also be bad motor and/or transmission mounts causing this. If its in the wheel area and you are sure the shock/strut is good then the noise can be a ball joint. If this is towards the middle to rear of the car it can be a exhaust hanger that has come loose or broke. These are the things that can cause a clunk over bumps.
