This answer was rated:

have a 1990 geo prizm that seems to have lunched the bearing races in the differential. Noise, clunks, and upon removal of drain plug, I found chunks of what appear to be the thin metal of a bearing race. How hard is it to replace these parts?
Hello: First of all you need to remove the cover and inspect If its the carrier bearings and races, there are not to hard to replace. But if it is the pinion bearings and races, (in most cases the race tends to spin in case, damaging case,Then complete case will have to be replaced,Let me know what you find so I can further assist you with this Thanks
