VW: exhaust fumes when the heater fan is on or at times..pinpoint

Customer Question

my car becomes filled with exhaust fumes when the heater fan is on or at times when the car is idling.I purchased the car from an experienced VW mechanic. He seems to be unable to pinpoint the problem. Unfortunately I did not turn the fan on when starting the car until after money had been exchanged. Unfortunately also, that I use my car as part of my job, transporting people with disabilities.

hi there my name is don i will try to help you on this
i have had a few of these

you do indeed have a exhaust leak
most likely a pin hole these can sometimes be very difficult to find

i have used a co,2 tester to find and have even pressured the exhaust system with air and use a spray bottle with soap and water to find

this is why you are only smelling at idle it is not large enough to hear
have your mechanic try that method
hope this helps you
