1982 suzuki: cyl..I tell if the battery or the alternator is going out

Resolved Question:

I have a 1982 Suzuki SJ410, 4 cyl. 1.0 engine. How can I tell if the battery or the alternator is going out? At idle, the dash lights are dim, but when I start going/rmps increase and or step on gas, the lights get brighter. Is there a simple way to determine if it is the battery or the alternator? Thanks

Sincerely,

Patrick

Steve :

Hello and Welcome to Justanswer, My name is XXXXX XXXXX I am here to try and assist your with your question

Steve :

the way to tell is to use a voltmeter and check the voltage across the battery when the car is running should have 14 volts at the battery

Steve :

If you do not have a voltmeter you can remove the alternator and have a parts store check the alternator and load test the battery

Steve :

by your description it sounds like you have a alternator that is going bad

JACUSTOMER-g4x3dgzt- :

without having a voltmeter, isn't there a way to tell, like I said, when the rpms are increased, the lights get brighter, doesn't that just by it self indicate whether or not it is the battery or if it is the alternator at least for the most part?
