X5: fuel filter..manifold..turbo..170k runs great but fills the garage

Customer Question

i have a 2004 update x5 deisel auto i have 2 questions
1 Where is the fuel filter on this car
2 Ever since I bought this car new in australia it has blown clouds of blue smoke on cold start it has been to 4 different dealers no one can fix the problem. The engine breather has been changed 3 times. The manifold and intercooler get a lot of oil in it and has been cleaned some 4 times the turbo was changed at 60k didn't do anything the car now has 170k runs great but fills the garage with blue smoke for about 20 seconds every cold start once started doesn't do it again until next morning. the thinking now is valve guide seals letting oil past, but it doesn't blow smoke after along run down hill where I believe if it was valve seals the sucstion going down hill would cause it to smoke, please help Ray Howell

Hi, Fuel Filter should be located under car but buried behind aluminum/plastic shields. Read link below, for more info. As far as smoke goes - sort out diesel filter first, and add Techron Diesel Additive to tank. Drive for a couple more tanks before condemning valve seals. Best of Luck! Links Here ->
