Do you have a turbo or non turbo 2.2?
Please give me just a minute and I will post a diagram of the timming marks for you and where the cam gear is set.
The dowel pin has to go into the hole for the #1 mark on the gear.
I need just a couple more seconds to get the diagrams posted.
There are the timing marks to set it back in place. Make sure to turn the engine over two revolutions at the crank to make sure the ti,img marks all line up agian before you put the timing cover back on.
