1995 TROOPER: OIL gauge GOES FROM 14-OVER..ROD BEARING..SENDING UNIT

I HAVE A 1995 TROOPER AND THE OIL GAUGE GOES FROM 14-OVER 150 PSI. BUT NO ROD BEARING TAPPING. IS IT A BAD SENDING UNIT OR WHAT? ENG. OIL LEVEL IS NORMAL. I CHANGED OIL & FILTER AND IT SHOWS ABOUT 13-15 PSI. IT IS SLOW TO COME UP. DID RUN AT ABOUT 85 PSI. XXX@XXXXXX.XXX

If you feel there is no mechanical problems with the vehicle then the oil pressure switch would be the likely repair.

If the oil pressure switch will not fix the problem, removing the oil pump and checking the pickup tube will be needed.
Have you replaced the timing belt lately?

  1. On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.
  2. Remove timing belt.
  3. Remove crankshaft timing pulley.
  4. Remove oil pan.

  1. Remove oil pump Fig. 59. Carefully remove sealing materials from both oil pump flange and cylinder block.
  2. Using a screwdriver, remove oil seal, if necessary.

  1. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
    1. Apply suitable sealant to oil pump fitting face. Ensure sealant is not applied to oil ports, Fig. 60.
    2. Use oil seal installer tool No. J-39202, or equivalent, to install new oil seal into oil pump assembly.
    3. Apply engine oil to oil seal lip.
    4. Do not force garter spring of seal out of position during oil pump installation.
    5. Tighten oil pump assembly retaining bolts to specification.
  1. On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.
