That would be the revers servo leaking pressure. It is mounted under the valve body. This repair is best left to a trans shop, and should not cost that much.

Jamie, why would it just not work? I haven't had any problems then all of a sudden it just won't go in reverse.

There is a rubber seal around the servo body that gets hard and cracks or breaks off leaking fluid pressure. When this happens the band can not apply. When you reved it up you increased the pump pressure and that is why it applied for you .
