Rx-7: runs well..heats..it cools, it fires right up..rich

Resolved Question:

My 1988 10 year anniversary rx-7 runs well but after it heats up and you shut it off, you have a hard time starting it. Once it cools, it fires right up. It also smells like it's burning rich when it's running. What could be the cause?

often this is a sign of a wek engine , lets get a compression test when its hot

Tests/Procedures:1. Get the engine to operating temperature and do a compression check. If compression is weak, the engine will need to be replaced.
Potential Causes:Weak Engine
Tech Tips:One half of the engine had 70 PSI pulses and the other has 60.

Why the rich smell of gas. Others think maybe a temperature sensor. Engine seems to be okay. It has been to the shop several times and a weak engine has never been mentioned. There are some vacuum leaks. Could this contribute?

yes it could be either , but weak compression will make it rich and smell
