Kia Sorento: you tell if the #1 cylinder..tdc without being 180 degs

How do you tell if the #1 cylinder on the Kia Sorento 3.5 is at TDC without being 180 degs out?

When all the timing marks line up you are on compression. The crank wont make a difference it is all in the cams that determine the timing as the piston is up for both compression and exhaust stroke. The valves are what open and close to determine the timing. I'm sure you have the marks but just in case here is a picture.
