I have a 2006 Pontiac Torrent (with AWD) with approximately 67,000 miles on it. About a week ago I noticed a whining noise when the vehicle is driven. Starts to be noticeable at around 20mph and gets more pronounced up to around 65mph when it fades away (or becomes less noticeable). I have tried to isolate it by running various systems. It is not the ac compressor or fan system, nor the brakes/wheel hubs, not associated with engine power/rpm. There is no check engine light or any other warnings illuminated. Car seems to run fine, just very annoying. Thank God for the stereo system.
Year: 2006Make: PontiacModel: TorrentEngine: 6 cylinder Already Tried: Tried isolating systems/components while driving and at idle. Visually examined engine compartment and under vehicle. No leaks detected. All fluid levels are within operational limits. Tires are inflated properly and have like new tread. Whining noise starts at around 15-20mph and gets more pronounced up until around 65mph when it becomes less noticeable. Not a screeching whine but more of a humming whine.

THIS SOUNDS VERY MUCH LIKE A BAD WHEEL BEARING .

AS YOU DRIVE AT 40 MPH TURN LEFT AND RIGHT TO SEE IF THE NOISE CHANGES.

THEN JACK UP THE CAR AND SPIN EACH WHEEL WHILE LISTENING FOR A NOISE IN THE BEARINGS, ALSO GRAB THE TIRE AND SHAKE IT TO DEE IF THERES ANY LOOSENESS

I read on here that another person (a woman) had a similar problem. Her description was pretty much what I am experiencing. She said that the dealership changed her wheel bearings and the noise was still there, so now they are replacing a bearing in her transmission. Could this also be the same problem I am having?
